Shooting Techniques
Adding Power to Your Soccer Kick
* Relax (relax all body parts except ankle)
* Focus on the part of ball you are going to hit
* Large last stride into the ball
* V shape (keep knee in V shape until knee is above the ball)
* Hit with big toe knuckle (NOT big toe!)
* Break the plane (follow through the strike and land on striking foot)
Shooting Empty Goal
Shooting Empty Goal One
* Line five balls 10 yards in front of goal.
* Let players shoot each one with right foot.
Shooting Empty Goal Two
* Repeat with left foot.
Shooting Empty Goal Three
* Increase distance to goal to 15 yards and repeat.
Shooting Empty Goal Four
* Increase distance to goal to 20 yards and repeat.
Shooting Empty Goal with Cone Defense
* Setup two smaller goals inside the big goal. One at the left corner, the other right corner.
Right Foot Shooting
* Line five balls 20 yards in front of goal.
* Place five group of three cones 15 yards in front of goal, five yards apart among groups of cones.
* Player dribbles each ball to the cone group closest to the ball, cut ball to right of cones, and shoot with right foot to either left or right small goals.
Left Foot Shooting
* Instead of cutting balls to the right, cut each ball to the left of cones, and shoot with left foot to either left or right small goals.
Shooting Empty Goal with Human Defense
* Line five balls 20 yards in front of goal.
* Player dribbles each ball to the goal, coach approaches player acting as real defender. Player cut ball to right of defender and shoot with right foot to either left or right small goals.
* Repeat with player cutting to the left of defender and shoot with left foot to either left or right small goals.
Shooting Bouncing Balls in front of Goal (Volley Shots)
* Ask player to drop the ball in front of goal and shoot the ball right after ball bounces off the ground.
* Repeat ten times.
