Planning<\/h2><\/span>\n

* Determine cluster architecture: basic or multi-tier, load balancer or proxy, firewalls.
\n* Consider network and security topologies.
\n* Choose machines.
\n* Identify names and addresses.
\n– Choose DNS names over IP addresses.
\n– Choose blank rather than Localhost (choose localhost limits access from localhost only).
\n* Assign names to WebLogic server resources.
\n* Identify Admin Server address and port.
\n* Identify Managed server addresses and listen ports.
\n* Identify multicast address and port.
\n– A multicast address is between 224.0.0.0 and 239.255.255.2555
\n– Defaults to 239.192.0.0
\n– Do not use multicast address ending with 0.0.1
\n– Mutlicast address is used to announce services and heartbeats.
\n– If use firewalls between clusters, each cluster needs its own multicast address.
\n* Cluster address
\n– Used in entity and stateless beans to construct the host name portion of request URLs.
\n– Let WebLogic server dynamically generates the cluster address for each new request.<\/p>\n

Cluster Implementation Procedures<\/h2><\/span>\n

* Install WebLogic Server:
\n– Install same version of WebLogic Server on each machine.
\n– Each machine:
\n~ Must have dedicated IP addresses.
\n~ Must be accessible to clients.
\n~ Must be located on the same LAN and reachable via IP multicast.
\n~ Do not use shared file system to run multiple server instance (IO contention).
\n* Create a clustered domain.
\n– Use Configuration Wizard
\n– Use Admin Console
\n* Start cluster.
\n* Configure node manager.
\n* Configure load balancing method for EJBs and RMIs.
\n– Defaults to round robin.
\n– Change via Admin Console on cluster’s Configuration > General > Default Load Algorithm<\/strong> tab.
\n* Specify a timeout value for RMIs.
\n– You can enable a timeout option when making calls to the ReplicationManager by setting the ReplicationTimeoutEnabled in the ClusterMBean to true.
\n– The timeout value is equal to the multicast heartbeat timeout.
\n– ReplicationManager timeout cannot be changed.
\n* Configure server affinity for distributed JMS destinations.
\n* If using load balancer, configure load balancer that support passive cookie persistence.
\n* If using proxy plug-ins, configure proxy plug-ins.
\n– Setup HttpClusterServlet.
\n* Configure replication groups.
\n* Configure migratable targets for pinned services.
\n* Configure clustered JDBC.
\n* Package applications for deployment.
\n* Deploy applications.
\n– use cluster name as deployment target.
